Jim Brandon Equestrian Center
Jim Brandon Equestrian Center, located in Palm Beach County’s Okeeheelee Park, is a 111-acre world class equestrian showplace built with the local horse enthusiast in mind and developed to host local horse shows year-round in south Florida and as space allowed, to host national horse and breed events. With eight arenas, spectator areas, a covered vendor area, stalls, wash racks, longing rings, concession and announcer buildings, it is an impressive stage to accommodate the large equestrian community in south Florida. This complex project involved a multitude of lighting venues, including the 150' x 300' covered arena, with its own schooling ring and spectator seating for approximately 1000. There are twenty three buildings, five outside show arenas, one mile of roadway, one half mile of walkway and parking for over 600 vehicles. This project consisted of over 150 light poles, 200 ceiling pendant mount fixtures at heights of over 50 feet, over 8 miles of underground raceways with a total footage of 32 miles of installed wire. Davco provided the specifications for the unusually intricate design required to provide state-of-the-art lighting protection and bonding of all the building systems. This design was essential in providing for the safety and security of these incredibly expensive horses, in order to protect them from the frequent and often violent lighting storms prevalent in South Florida. Davco worked in partnership with the architects, electrical engineers and the owner, the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department, to bring this project to a successful completion. In addition to the initial project, Davco was involved in rebuilding much of the facility damaged by Hurricane Wilma in October, 2005. In 2005, the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department announced an 897 acre expansion program for the equestrian center.
