Generator related matters require an on-site visit to provide an estimate.
General Permitting Requirements
Generator must be sized according to load to be controlled.
- Generator must sit at least 10’ from any door or opening.
- Clearance of 3’ on each side of generator is required for servicing the unit.
- Generator must sit at least 5’ from any utility easement.
Other considerations:
FUEL- Generators can be driven by gasoline, diesel fuel, natural gas, or LP (Propane) based on your needs and availability. A separate permit and gas contractor are required for fuel connection to generator and/or for installation of storage tanks.
Gasoline is only used for small portable generators and most have a maximum of 5 gallon tanks requiring fill up more frequently.
Diesel is used for larger generators usually in the form of a base tank, meaning that the generator actually sits on the fuel tank and capacity can be up to 500 gallons.
Natural gas may already piped in to your location for other purposes, so the supply is limitless in that it is a constant flow like your water supply.
LP or Propane is used where natural gas is not available and can be stored in tanks under or above ground in sizes up to 1000 gallons.
BASE PAD – All permanently installed generators must be fixed in place on a concrete pad sized according to generator size / weight. Pads for larger generators require a separate building permit.
